Hi! Just your average blog post here. Where I get you to eat 100% normal everyday foods.

Like this casual, ordinary, not strange whatsoever Detox Charcoal Latte.

We all thought I was off my rocker when I posted this Detox Charcoal Black Lemonade last year, but it has since become one of the most popular recipes on the blog. Taking a cue from that success, we are diving into foreign territory once again with this morning elixir.

I probably should start this off with a long list of the benefits of charcoal, but instead, lets talk about something even more important: TASTE. We can save the science lesson for the next paragraph, because what good is a healthy recipe if we don't want to actually drink our Detox Charcoal Latte?

Though this might look like some bad swamp water was mixed with motor oil and then poured into a kitchen glass, this latte actually tastes pretty darn great. The charcoal has little to no flavor, and any flavor that it does have, is masked by creamy almond milk and fragrant vanilla extract.

It smells like your regular vanilla latte. It tastes like your regular vanilla latte, it just looks like something that might be consumed by your everyday Fear Factor competitor. (Was anyone else OBSESSED with that show as a kid?)

Now, onto the health beni's of this swamp water looking Detox Charcoal Latte.

Activated charcoal has the ability to absorb toxins. Each particle has tons of small pores that can bind to toxins and usher them out of the body. It can help prevent a hangover, relieve digestion upsets like gas and bloating, and help out bodies detox.

Since it can indeed soak up substances in the body, avoid taking any pills or vitamins within a 2 hour window of consuming charcoal. Otherwise, your charcoal will absorb your pills and miss the toxins you want removed. I usually have this latte first thing on an empty stomach, and then a few hours later when my stomach lets me know it is time for breakfast, I have a solid meal and take my vitamins.

In case you are wondering where you can get yourself some of this black powder, I either pick up my activated charcoal from a local health food store or I order it on Amazon. Just make sure that it is food grade charcoal you are adding to your cart. You can choose to purchase charcoal in pill form or powder form, and each has its benefits. The pills are great to have on hand for when you have a stomach ache, and you can just snip the pills to use the charcoal powder for this recipe. The powder is great for using in beauty recipes and a bit easier to measure out for your Detox Charcoal Latte. Whatever you choose, the powder is yours ;)

Cheers to the swamp.

Hi Μαρία, no this recipe is not intended to make you loose weight. Charcoal absorbs toxins and is great for a gentle detox. Make sure not to consume charcoal within 2 hours of vitamins or medications as the charcoal will absorb them as well and you won't get the intended benefits.

It is delicious even without any sweetener because of the vanilla flavor. Thank you for the recipe. :)
