Coconut Sugar Dalgona Coffee is a healthier version of the whipped coffee trend! It is naturally sweetened, dairy free, and vegan with all the BIG coffee flavor!

Ultra fluffy, smooth & thick, intensity coffee-y, perfectly sweet, and downright dreamy dalgona.

If you are a fellow foam-on-top-of-latte-lover, or coffee lover, or person in quarantine, this coffee is guaranteed to be a bright spot in your day.

What is dalgona coffee?

Dalgona coffee, you beautiful thing. It is a combination of instant coffee, sugar, and water. This mixture is whipped until it turns into a thick, coffee flavored, foam. Then, it is spooned over either iced or warmed milk for a coffee drink treat!

Instead of foam on top of a latte, it is coffee foam on top of milk. And it is worth the hype!

Ingredients in Coconut Sugar Dalgona coffee:

  • Instant coffee - I am 100% partial to this brand!
  • Coconut Sugar (or regular sugar, or monk fruit sugar... any "sugar" that is in crystal form)
  • Hot water
  • Milk of choice - I love soy, oat, or almond!

How do you make coconut sugar dalgona coffee?

This recipe is a breeze! Add your instant coffee, coconut sugar, and hot water to a bowl and whisk, whisk, whisk. Then whisk some more. The mixture will thicken, then lighten in color. You know it's ready when it forms soft peaks.

Spoon this over your milk of choice and enjoy! Each sip is a perfect mix of milk and a bit of coffee foam.

Can you make whipped coffee without sugar?

You can! You will need some sort of granulated sugar or sugar in granulated form for best results. The granules help create the airy light texture.

Sugar, coconut sugar, granulated monk fruit, xylitol, and erythritol should all work. However, I think coconut sugar or regular granulated sugar create the best flavor and texture!

Can you make dalgona with warm milk?

Absolutely! And is it is downright delicious. I recommend chilling your whipped coffee and then dolloping it on top of warm milk. It has a warm coffee/cold whipped cream feel, only opposite!

Tips for perfect whipped coffee:

  • The coffee flavor in this recipe is STRONG, so a quality instant coffee is a must! A lot of instant brands are bitter or acidic or both. This brand is smooth and robust!
  • This recipe requires a lot of whisking. While it is possible to make with a hand-held frother, whisk, or even a spoon, grab an electric hand mixer or stand mixer for best results. Unless you are for a bonus arm workout.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons instant coffee
  • 2 tablespoons coconut sugar
  • 2 tablespoons hot water
  • Warm or iced milk of choice

Instructions

  1. Add the instant coffee, coconut sugar, and hot water to a bowl. Use a hand mixer (a stand mixer works here too!) to whip the coffee until it thickens, lightens in color and is light and fluffy. This should take 5-7 minutes.
  2. Dollop on top of your milk of choice and enjoy!
