This Hibiscus Clay Antioxidant Face mask will infuse your face with anti-aging antioxidants and banish blackheads using all natural non-toxic ingredients!
Something weird is happening today. We are branching out from the norm. I am going to try and convince you to smear some stuff on your face.
Over the last few years, along with changing my diet, I have also been changing my beauty and household products. I slowly switched my toxic makeup, skincare, and cleaning products to less harsh, natural versions. There have been ups and downs and finding a good natural mascara has been the struggle of a lifetime, but overall natural products work!
And my favorite type of natural products: ones you can make in the kitchen.
So lets cook up a face mask that will leave your face nourished, even-toned, and blackhead free.
This Hibiscus Clay Antioxidant Face Mask uses real ingredients to give you a healthy glow.
Hibiscus is one of the highest source of antioxidants. When you add in ground hibiscus flowers into the mask, it gets these antioxidants right onto your skin and nourishes with all its antioxidant superpowers. Antioxidants can increase collagen production, keeping our skin plump and elastic, while reducing the look of wrinkles. That's a one two punch.
Bentonite Clay has the power to unclog pores (bye, bye blackheads) and shrink down pore size. Additionally, it is said to actually remove toxins from the face, clear up acne, and rebuild damaged tissue. I can personally vouch for my improved skin. With regular use, my blackheads diminish, my pores are less visible, and my skin is more balanced - producing less oil.
Honey is more than just a tea sweetener. It has antibacterial properties which can stop zits in their tracks. It also adds a boost of moisture to your skin and prevents premature aging. Honey can also reduce color spots and gets rid of redness.
We have all heard about the benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar and they extend to the visage. Adding this miracle elixir to your face mask will help balance the PH of the skin, prevent any zits, and give your face a healthy glow.
Using this mask just once a week has greatly improved the overall look of my skin.
Once you make a batch of this mask, you will have some on hand for several weeks. I recommend using this mask once a week, or twice if you have oily skin. You will see results immediately, and the benefits will compound with each use. After several weeks you will really be able to notice a difference!
Once you have your mask all mixed together, STOP. Do not proceed until you have exfoliated your face. Exfoliating gets rid of dead skin cells and allows the mask to really cling to and nourish your skin. It also gets rid of any dry patches. Dry and dead skin will get dyed purple from the hibiscus. This dying that occurs will fade within a day, but to avoid strange, purple patches on your face, use a good exfoliant before applying the mask. If you properly exfoliate, you have nothing to worry about. Your face will remain perfectly un-purple.
After your mask has dried on your skin, gently remove it with warm water. I recommend splashing the warm water onto your face and letting it soften the clay before scrubbing it off with a wash cloth. This is a gentler way to remove the mask and better for your skin. Scrubbing the mask off aggressively can create redness.
Once your skin is mask-free, use a balancing toner and then moisturize to finish off your mask routine.
Gettin' that glow.
Hibiscus Clay Antioxidant Mask
- Yield: 0 uses 1x
Description
This Hibiscus Clay Antioxidant Face mask will infuse your face with anti-aging antioxidants and banish blackheads using all natural non-toxic ingredients!
Ingredients
For the base:
- 4 tablespoons dried hibiscus (sometimes called hibiscus tea)
- 6 tablespoons bentonite clay
For the mask:
- 2 tablespoons base
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
Instructions
For the base:
- Add your hibiscus to a coffee grinder/spice grinder. Grind until the leaved are a fine powder, and add to a small bowl. Using plastic or wood utensils, mix together the clay and hibiscus. Store in a bottle for up to 6 months.
For the mask:
- When you are ready to make a mask, whisk together the honey and apple cider vinegar. Add in 2 tablespoons of the base and stir together using wooden or plastic utensils.
- Apply the mask to your clean and exfoliated face (see notes!) in an even layer, and let sit until dry. Splash your face with warm water to soften the mask and then remove with a wet towel.
- Apply a balancing toner and then a moisturizer.
Notes
- You must use non-metal bowls, containers, and utensils when making and storing your mask. Metal will deactivate the clay and remove its detoxing properties.
- Be sure to exfoliate your face before applying the mask to remove dead skin cells and any dry patches. Dry patches or dead skin can be dyed purple by the mask. To avoid this exfoliate well with a gentle scrub before mask use.
- You can purchase Bentonite Clay, Apple Cider Vinegar, Hibiscus, and Honey for this mask on Amazon.

Hey love your clay mask recipe!
How long can this clay mask be stored for and can it be stored at normal room temperature or in the fridge?
Laurel says
Hi Maria! I am so glad you are loving it! Once the base is mixed with the honey and apple cider vinegar, you can store any leftovers in the fridge for 3-5 days. The base powder can be kept at room temperature for months!
