This Detox Cranberry Cherry Smoothie is packed full of flavor and antioxidants! The perfect quick and healthy breakfast or snack recipe.
Happy 2019! How is your new year treating you so far?
I always find that January is for two things: dieting and setting resolutions for the New Year. While both of these can be good, I wanted to take a softer approach this season. Instead of crash diets, I am going to make sure to eat as many nutrients as possible (like this Detox Cranberry Cherry Smoothie!) .
Instead of resolutions with unrealistically high standards, I am going to set just one intention for the year: to practice patience and slow down.
I am not a slow person. I am a to-do lister. Every morning I write myself a long list and set about crossing everything off. I usually add more items than I can reasonably accomplish and frantically work the day away trying to check them all off. This often leaves me feeling frazzled, uneasy, and anxious.
This year I want to do things differently. Instead of measuring my worth in check marks, I want to take advantage of slow moments lived well. With our first baby coming in just a few short months, I want to be ready to slow down and take a break. I want to patiently soak in each moment without feeling the guilt of work undone.
Because life is all about those little moments, right? I have a feeling our little one is about to teach me this in a big way.
Now, onto this smoothie! This is exactly the kind of food my body craves after what seems like weeks and weeks of cookies #noregrets. It is light, sweet, tart, and creamy. It also packs in a big nutritional boost thanks to some stellar ingredients.
This Detox Cranberry Cherry Smoothie all starts with the cranberries. After learning that they are one of the most antioxidant packed foods on the planet and since they are readily available this time of year, I knew they had to make it into this recipe.
Not to mention the fact that this pregnant lady has been craving ALL THE SOUR FOODS, and cranberries have been hitting the spot! And since this pregnant lady also happens to be in charge of recipe development around here, I may have taken the liberty of catering this recipe to my tastes.
But fear not! This smoothie is far from being too tart or sour. With the sweetness of cherries and bananas added to the modest amount of cranberries in this recipe, it has perfectly balanced sweet-tart flavor.
Cranberries also help to improve digestion, regulate blood sugar (needed after all those cookies!), and boost our immune systems.
Ginger adds a nice hint of spice to our Detox Cranberry Cherry Smoothie and it is an age-old remedy for excess. It can improve digestion which can get sluggish after all that holiday food. It also aids the body in detox and just feels plain good. Whenever I eat ginger, I feel like it is giving my stomach a big ol' hug.
Cherries are one of my all time favorite fruits. As a kiddo, I would ask for a bowl of frozen cherries for dessert most nights. My parents were thrilled that I seemed to prefer them to ice cream and I can only hope our kid inherits those same tastebuds!
Cherries are great at reducing inflammation and can naturally promote weight loss. And while no food is a cure-all, a little extra metabolism boost sounds pretty good this time of year! They are loaded with antioxidants and can actually help usher fats out of our blood. Yet another win after all that party food!
Not only are these fruits amazing, but they sure make our Detox Cranberry Cherry Smoothie taste darn delicious!
