Healthy vegan paleo hot chocolate mix made with coconut sugar!

Healthy Vegan Hot Chocolate Mix! A four ingredient mix that is low in sugar and big in chocolate flavor! Store it in the cupboard and enjoy anytime.

A spoonful of paleo healthy vegan hot chocolate mix.

Call me crazy, but I could not imagine a day without chocolate.

Reed jokes that it is my favorite food, but when I agree, I am as serious as a heart attack.

My chocolate of choice is either a square of 80% dark chocolate or this healthy vegan hot chocolate mix.

It is full of robust chocolate flavor. Sweet enough to satisfy my nightly sweet tooth and healthy enough to be enjoyed anytime.

I found myself whipping up a mug so often that I had to switch over from measuring it out every time to making a big batch mix. This mix makes 4 servings, but you can easily double (or triple!) the recipe to ensure you always have instant hot chocolate on hand.

What is in vegan instant hot chocolate?

Night after night, I scooped, stirred and sipped my way through dozens of hot chocolate tests before landing on the perfect mix of rich and perfectly sweet hot chocolate. It was a tough job.

I found that these ingredients result in the perfect mug:

  • Raw cacao powder - full of antioxidants and of BIG chocolate flavor!
  • Coconut sugar - a natural sweetener with a caramel like sweetness.
  • Red reishi mushroom powder - a dose of relaxing ultra-healthy mushroom goodness. Which does not add any shroomy flavor. Also, is optional.
  • Cinnamon - a subtle sweet warmth that keeps you coming back sip after sip
  • Vanilla bean powder - optional, but adds a sweet gourmet touch
  • Stevia - a no-sugar plant based sweetener that rounds out the coconut sugar for the perfect level of sweetness with only 2 grams of sugar per serving

How to make healthy vegan hot chocolate mix:

I add all the ingredients to a glass jar, screw on a lid, and shake it well. Store it in a cool dry place and enjoy often. Also, if you are me, travel with it so you never risk a night away from this sweet and relaxing nightcap.

How to make a mug of Vegan Instant Hot Chocolate:

There are a couple of ways to go about making this hot chocolate.

My favorite way is to heat up 4 ounces of water and 4 ounces of non dairy milk (I prefer unsweetened soy milk in this recipe!) on the stove, then whisk in a heaping tablespoon of the healthy hot chocolate mix.

To make the hot chocolate ultra smooth and frothy, pour it into a high speed blender and blend it for about 10 seconds or until a foam appears on the top when you stop the blender. Pour into a mug and enjoy along with a complimentary foamstache.

For a truly instant healthy hot chocolate mix, heat up 8 ounces of water and whisk in a heaping tablespoon of the mix. Add in a few spoonfuls of coconut or cashew milk powder until it is creamy and delicious.

Hi Laurel! This sounds delicious. Do you have a specific brand of vanilla bean powder you recommend? I’ve seen so many different kinds so curious which one you use. Thanks!

Hi Saoirse! I love this one by Wilderness Poets. The flavor is amazing! I have also tried this one by Kiva, too.
