Grapefruit Avocado Salad

Grapefruit Avocado salad is a refreshing and juicy salad with layers of grapefruit, buttery avocado, shaved fennel, fresh basil, and a drizzle of good olive oil, salt and pepper.

This simple salad is the taste of summer! BRIGHT, juicy, buttery, fresh to the max.

The grapefruit segments are juicy gems of sweet-tart flavor. The avocado adds fat that perfectly balances out the grapefruit. Thinly shaved fennel and basil leaves add a summer pop.

Layer it on a platter, top it with a drizzle of good olive oil and a sprinkle of salt and pepper for the perfect finishing touch.

Reasons to love this recipe:

  • No salad dressing required! The tartness of the grapefruit mixed with a drizzle of olive oil creates the perfect balance without the need to whisk up a separate dressing.
  • The salad comes together in 15 minutes and looks like a SHOWSTOPPER.
  • Feels like a fancy restaurant dish, but is easy to whip up for any last minute dinner.
  • It is naturally gluten free, vegan, paleo and filled with fresh flavor!
  • Perfectly refreshing on a hot summer day.

Ingredients for Grapefruit Avocado Salad:

  • Grapefruit - the delicious base of this recipe. Grapefruit comes back in season during the summer months thanks to South African growers! They are extra juicy and delicious.
  • Avocado
  • Fennel - adds a mild licorice note that pairs well with the grapefruit. Slice it thinly for best flavor and texture!
  • Basil - another perfect compliment to both the grapefruit and avocado
  • Olive oil - choose a good one! The flavor will really stand out here, so pick the best one you have.
  • Salt and pepper

How do you make Grapefruit Avocado Salad?

Start by segmenting your grapefruit - here is a great guide if it's your first time or you need a refresher! The first time you segment, it may be slow going. But as you master it, you'll get quicker each time until it's a breeze!

Arrange the grapefruit on a serving plate. Top the grapefruit with sliced avocado, and thinly sliced or shaved fennel. Have fun arranging!

Top with small (or torn larger) basil leaves, a nice big pinch of both salt and pepper and a drizzle of olive oil. ENJOY!

Can you make this salad ahead of time?

This salad will keep well for 1-2 hours in the fridge, but I wouldn't recommend storing it longer than that as the avocados will start to brown.
