Winter Citrus Avocado Salad is packed with juicy citrus, avocado, herbs, and a sweet and acidic vinaigrette. A healthy recipe that’s ready in 30 minutes!
Special thanks to the sponsors of this post, OXO and California Olive Ranch for partnering with me to bring you this crazy delicious Winter Citrus Avocado Salad!
And by crazy delicious I mean soft buttery lettuce topped with a mix of bright and juicy citrus fruit like tart grapefruit, ruby-hued Cara Cara oranges, and sweet juicy navels. The citrus gets topped with buttery avocado and fresh herbs to give this salad some zing. Then when things couldn’t possibly get any better, they do, because next we drizzle on the vinaigrette that is the perfect mix of sweet, acidic, and peppery.
This Winter Citrus Avocado Salad is every salad lover’s dream. Scratch that. It is every person’s dream.
One of my favorite healthy habits is eating one big salad a day. Since this habit not only makes me feel amazing, but also tastes delicious, I have kept it up for years. I have eaten a lot of salads in my time, but I never fail to find new and exciting ways to enjoy them. Salads can be full of so many different textures and flavors!
Something that often gets overlooked when creating a perfect salad are the right tools for the job. Using the right equipment helps to make this healthy dish even better. They save time in the kitchen and make the flavors shine.
The first thing I reach for when making a salad is my trusty OXO Salad Spinner. Now, I grew up in a household where my dad was a firm believer in the salad spinner. Every time a salad was on the menu, the salad spinner was the first thing he reached for in the cupboards. And for good reason! Soggy wet lettuce can really ruin a salad and it takes so much time to wash and dry leaves by hand.
But with the OXO Salad Spinner, good salad is a breeze. I simply cut my lettuce into bite-sized pieces and then transfer it to the basket inside the salad spinner. I take this basket over to the sink and rinse the lettuce right in it; then back into the spinner it goes. After a few spins, I push the button to stop the spinning instantly, and the lettuce is perfectly dry and ready to go.
Once the lettuce is prepped, it is all about the salad toppings. For this Winter Citrus Avocado Salad, I like to keep things simple (and super flavorful!) with the best citrus I can find in the store, avocado, and herbs.
And when it comes to the citrus, feel free to improvise. If you can’t find good looking Cara Cara oranges at your local market but the blood oranges are looking as fresh and juicy as ever, just swap them in in equal amounts. The same goes for all the other citrus fruits in the recipe.
For our Winter Citrus Avocado Salad, I like to peel the oranges with a knife and then cut them into segments or rounds. This limits the amount of bitter white pith on the fruit and lets their sweet flavor really shine! And when it comes to avocado, this tool is my go-to for quick slices that turn out perfect every time.

Now that we have our lettuce and toppings prepped, it is all about the dressing. And a great dressing always starts with a great extra virgin olive oil. When you use a great extra virgin olive oil, your dressing has so much more flavor!
California Olive Ranch is my go-to brand. For this dressing I love using their Rich & Robust Extra Virgin Olive Oil. It has a bold olive flavor and peppery notes that are the perfect contrast to the sweet citrus fruit.
When making the dressing, I use another few tools that bring it together in two shakes… literally. To juice the citrus for the dressing, I use a citrus juicer which makes the process so much quicker and a lot less messy. I juice the citrus right into my OXO Salad Dressing Shaker and then add in all the remaining ingredients. Just screw on the top, give it a few shakes, and your dressing is ready to be poured right over the salad from the shaker.
If I have any leftover dressing, I transfer it right into the fridge in the Salad Dressing Shaker. The tight seal will keep the dressing fresh for up to a week, making salads easier than ever.
