Healthy Tahini Caramel

Healthy Tahini Caramel Sauce! A five minute no-cook caramel that is sweet, creamy, and decadent. A dairy free sauce perfect for apples, ice cream, and more!

Secretly Healthy Tahini Caramel Sauce? Bring it on! 

This luxurious sauce is nutty, sweet, silky smooth and ready for apple dunking. 

Maple syrup is our caramel-flavored natural sweetener. Tahini makes is creamy, nutty, and gives the sauce body. It has a hint of vanilla for gourmet sweetness and a dash of salt to make the flavors really pop! 

It is a one bowl, 5 minute, 4 ingredient, one step, no-cook, dessert sauce that is perfect for Fall.

Oh the ways we can use this Tahini Caramel!

  • Lattes - imagine a PSL with THIS as the sweetener... pure Fall magic 
  • Apples - dip em, drizzle em, devour em
  • Ice cream - a nice caramel swirl couldn't hurt?
  • Swirled into yogurt - aka the new best snack!
  • As a syrup for pancakes, waffles, or french toast - especially good with sautéed apples too!
  • Cinnamon rolls - move over cream cheese frosting!

I must confess, there is one secret to making perfect tahini caramel sauce and its all about the tahini.

There are two main types of tahini. There is hulled tahini and unhulled tahini and we are looking for the latter in this recipe.

Hulled tahini is made from sesame seeds after their outer layer or hull has been removed. This tahini is thinner and runnier in consistancy. 

Unhulled tahini is made from whole sesame seeds - hull and all. This makes for a thicker tahini and a thicker caramel sauce. Bonus: the hull comes with extra nutrients! (This is the one I used for best results)

Ingredients

Scale
  • ¾ cup unhulled tahini
  • ¾ cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a bowl and stir! Enjoy. Store leftover caramel in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
