This tea for digestion is a tasty homemade herbal tea recipe that will leave your stomach soothed and refreshed!

Healthy tea for digestion in a mug with lemon.

This soothing herbal tea is my families go-to for soothing digestion! It is packed with digestion enhancing herbs and can be sweetened to taste.

Reasons to love this recipe!

  • Made with just 5 ingredients!
  • This mix stores well in the pantry for up to 6 months.
  • Naturally caffeine free, you can enjoy this tea any time of day!
  • Each herbal ingredient is rooted in science to sooth digestion! More on each herb below.
Whole spices mixed together in a bowl.

Ingredients and Benefits:

  • Fennel seeds - these seeds add delicious flavor to the tea and reduce cramping, gas, and bloating. Win-win!
  • Coriander seeds - compounds in coriander have been shown to reduce indigestion, gas, and bloating.
  • Fenugreek seeds - this seed has a distinct maple syrup flavor! It has been shown to improve digestion and relieve constipation. This might be the most difficult herb to find. Look for it online or at your local health food store, usually in the bulk section.
  • Dried ginger pieces - I prefer to use dried ginger to make this tea shelf-stable but you can also add a few slices of ginger to the pot when brewing a pot of tea. The digestive superpower of ginger is that it causes the stomach to empty quicker, soothing digestive distress.
  • Cumin seeds - cumin can boost our digestive enzymes, making digestion easier and quicker. This humble seed can also reduce gas and bloating in persons with IBS.
  • Optional sweetener - add honey or maple syrup to taste.
  • Optional lemon - a lemon slice brightens this tea up! It's delicious with or without.

How to make tea:

Make the blend: Start off by mixing together all the herbs. Store this in a jar in your pantry or tea cupboard.

Brew a cup: To make a cup of tea add the tea mix and water to a pot. Bring to a simmer, reduce to a boil and cover. Simmer for 20 minutes. Strain out the seeds, sweeten to taste, and enjoy!

  • Loose tea in a pot ready to be boiled.
  • Boiled tea for digestion.

Storage?

Store the dry tea mix in the pantry for up to 6 months.

For any leftover brewed tea, store in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat on the stove or in the microwave.

Great store-bought teas to sooth digestion:

This tea is truly SO easy to make at home, but if you want to purchase pre-made tea at the store (or online!), here are some great options I have personally tried:

  • Get Relief - I am a HUGE fan of all Republic of Tea products and especially love this one for boosting digestion!
  • Stomach Ease - another personal favorite! The blend of herbs seems to instantly soothe my stomach.
  • Tulsi Lemon Ginger - this ginger-forward tea is one of my husbands favorites. I also love that this tea contains Tulsi - research it!

More digestion-friendly recipes!

  • Healing Kitchari - another soothing Ayurvedic recipe!
  • Artisan Gluten Free Bread - I know, strange to recommend bread for digestion! But this loaf is FULL of fiber that can help improve digestion. It is made with whole gluten-free grains and is vegan too.
  • Homemade Vegan Greek Yogurt - full of probiotics to boost gut health!
  • Fresh Mint Iced Tea - I like to make this warm to make it extra soothing.
  • Ginger Juice - make a batch and add it to your tea, smoothies, and more!
