Gluten Free Italian Herb Breadsticks

Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe

Italian Herb Breadsticks are incredibly soft and buttery but are made with gluten free whole grains and are dairy free! The perfect dinner side recipe.

Big Important Question of the day: Has anyone successfully eaten just one breadstick?

If you have, pat yourself on the back! You are a rare and wonderful breed of human. I on the other hand, tend to extend my hand back into the bread basket over and over until my entire dinner has been made up of golden brown buttery bread before my real meal ever hits the table.

Regrets? Zero.

A good breadstick is worth the bag of untouched pasta leftovers. You can have your breadsticks and eat your pasta (later) too.

These Gluten Free Italian Herb Breadsticks are the lightest, fluffiest, softest, most perfectly golden brown and buttery breadsticks I have ever come across. They are seasoned with Italian herbs, garlic, and salt for irresistible flavor that will have you reaching back into the bread basket again and again.

And these Gluten Free Italian Herb Breadsticks are much healthier than their tender texture and buttery exterior would have you believe. They are made with gluten free whole grains for added protein and fiber. But, they still maintain their fluffy and soft texture.

Plus, these tender vegan breadsticks are surprisingly easy to make! All you need is a batch of Gluten Free Pizza Crust dough, some vegan butter, and a few dashes of Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and onion powder for added flavor.

These garlic herb breadsticks are perfect for serving alongside our Gluten Free Vegan Freezer Pizzas or a big ol' bowl of Truffle Alfredo Pasta. And of course, they make the perfect afternoon snack when warmed up and dunked in pasta sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 recipe Gluten Free Pizza Crust
  • 1 ½ tablespoons melted Easy Vegan Butter OR store bought
  • ¼ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

Make the dough:

  1. Follow the directions for Gluten Free Pizza Crusts, but stop after chilling the dough. Do not form or bake the dough into crusts.

Make the breadsticks:

  1. Place the chilled dough on a greased baking sheet. Gently pat it out into a 1 inch thick rectangle. If the dough is sticking to your hands, wash them, then spray them with nonstick cooking oil. Cut the dough into breadstick sized pieces (I made 10 horizontal cuts and 1 vertical cut to make 20 breadsticks, see photo above in post).
  2. Cover the breadsticks loosely with plastic wrap and set them in a warm place to rise for 1 hour. While the breadsticks rise, preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  3. In a small bowl, melt the butter in the microwave. Stir in the Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Brush this butter over the breadsticks. Bake them for 15 minutes. Remove and let cool slightly before breaking apart and serving.
