This easy recipe for homemade rosewater uses just 2 ingredients and takes 20 minutes! Use this rosewater toner as a facial mist to reduce redness, acne, and unclog pores.
Sometimes you come here and I try and get you to put weird things on your face. Sometimes it's charcoal, other times it's matcha tea or hibiscus tea, then there was that post with rice flour. All in all, these wacky ingredients have great skin benefits, but today's post is going to be an easier sell.
No food. No tea. No strange powders or potions to slather on your visage.
Just light, fresh, floral scented Rosewater.
Rosewater is gaining population in the natural beauty world, and I am not one to miss out on trying out a new trend! I have hopped n a few... questionable ones in the past few years, but I am happy to report that rosewater is worth the hype.
Rosewater makes some big claims. Homemade rosewater is anti-inflammatory that can soothe facial irritation. It can reduce redness, and many forms of skin irritation like acne and eczema. It helps to clean and unclog pores and is very gentle making it great for sensitive skin. When used as a toner it can help to balance skin and increase hydration.
I have been using it for a while now, and have noticed that it is moisturizing, soothing, and reduces redness. I have combination oily/dry skin and it seems to soothe both my dry patches and oily zones. Plus, that smell of fresh roses, one spritz and I am in the spa. Or at least a little sliver of the spa is transported into my bathroom.
However, rosewater is also ex-pen-SIVE. After a few months of dropping 25 green bills on a small bottle, I started looking for another way to fuel my rosewater addiction. Spritzing my face a couple times a day (trust me you'll want to use this 24/7) I could easily go through a bottle every two weeks.
But there is good news pals, we don't have to ration our mistings, we can make homemade rosewater for a fraction of the cost.
Spritz away, my friends.
And homemade rosewater is one of the easiest DIY recipes I have ever attempted. All you need is a bunch of roses (6 for one large batch and 12 for a double batch), some filtered water, and a pot. Then, fill that pot up with the water and bring it to a simmer. Add in the petals from 6 roses and cover. Simmer until the petals are pale in color and have given all their floral goodness to the water. Strain and get ready for a spritz-a-thon. (But just make sure to let your homemade rosewater cool before using. While vampire facials are all the rage, I still think a burn facial might not be something we want to consider).
I will be DIYing this one for days!
