Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe

Hot Honey is an easy 15 minute recipe that is the perfect balance sweet, spicy, and acidic. Use it on toast, pizza, in salad dressings and more.

A jar of hot honey.

Hot Honey has quickly become a pantry staple! Is is the perfect way to add sweet heat to any recipe. It is irresistible when drizzled on pizza, turns charcuterie boards gourmet, and great substitute for other sweeteners in salad dressings, marinades and more.

Reasons to love this recipe!

  • Making your own hot honey is quick, easy and much less expensive!
  • You can customize it to suit you personal spice threshold.
  • Use it to spice up everything from toast to salad dressing.

Ingredients and Substitutions:

  • Honey - no need to use the most expensive honey here. Heating it to infuse it with flavor will negate some of the health benefits found in raw honey. Save raw honey for no-cook applications.
  • Jalapeno peppers - or serrano, habanero, etc. for more heat.
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Apple cider vinegar - adds some needed acidity to balance out the sweet and spicy flavors in this hot honey.

How to make Hot Honey

Combine and simmer: Add the peppers and honey to a pot. Simmer for 5 minutes to infuse the flavors. Set aside off heat and let sit for 10 more minutes. Stir in the apple cider vinegar.

Strain and store: Strain out the peppers and pour the honey into jar or other lidded container. Once cool, lid and store in the pantry.

  • Honey, jalapeno peppers, and red pepper flakes in a small pot.
  • Strained jalapeno peppers and red pepper flakes removed from honey.

Storage:

Thanks to the preserving qualities of honey, this hot honey recipe will likely never go bad! I recommend checking it at the 3 month mark, but I have successfully stored mine longer. Store in the pantry at room temperature.

How to use hot honey

  • Drizzle it on your favorite pizza.
  • Spread it over cornbread, buttered toast, or biscuits.
  • Add it to marinades in place of the sweetener.
  • Serve it with charcuterie boards and cheese balls.
  • Stir it into salad dressings.
  • Anywhere you want to add sweet heat!
