Sometimes you need sweet potato fries and you need them now. Enter the air fryer. Frozen sweet potato fries in the air fryer are perfectly crisp and dare I say better than in the oven?

They cook in 10 minutes flat and are the perfect side with burgers, sandwiches, salads and more! What doesn't go with fries?

Reasons to love this recipe!

  • Your sweet potato fries will be ready in just 10 minutes with minimal preheating time. Perfect for when you need fries now.
  • Cook them straight from frozen! No thawing required.
  • They end up perfectly crisp - better than in the oven!
  • A healthier option. Most sweet potato fries are gluten free and cooking them in the air fryer cuts down on added oils.

Ingredients and Substitutions:

  • Frozen sweet potato fries - straight cut, crinkle, or waffle all work! I use Alexia fries and they cook beautifully with this method!
  • Seasonings - optional, but they can bump up the flavor! See more below.
  • Sauces and dips - again optional, but who doesn't love a good sauce with their fries?

How to make frozen sweet potato fries in the air fryer:

Preheat your air fryer: Set your air fryer to 375 degrees for 10 minutes.

Season, if desired: Once preheated, add your frozen fries to the air fryer basket, in a single layer. Season with any spices you'd like - quickly sprinkle them right over the fries.

Cook and enjoy: Place the basket in the air fryer and shake halfway through the cooking time. This ensures even cooking and that the fries closest to the edge aren't overdone. Enjoy hot with your favorite sauces!

My favorite air fryer

The air fryer I use, and love, is the Instant Pot Vortex. It came highly recommended and has great reviews. I love the ease of use, how quickly it preheats, and that nonstick basket truly is nonstick!

Storage?

Store any leftover fries in a lidded container in the fridge for 5-7 days. Reheat fries in the air fryer, set to 375 for 2-4 minutes.

Use spices to amp up the flavor!

When cooking frozen fries, I like to add herbs and spices to add even more flavor! If your fries already have seasoning on them, consider skipping this step. If not, here are some of my favorite ways to add flavor!

Smoked Paprika + Garlic Powder + Salt: My tried and true seasoning blend! Add a sprinkle of each for a super savory fry.

Salt + Pepper: This classic tastes great on fries! Go light on the pepper at first. It gets stronger as the fries cook.

Salt + Fresh Basil: Add the salt before cooking and the basil at the end. The heat of the fries will wilt the basil adding a perfume of flavor!

Parmesan + Fresh Garlic + Flaky Salt: Cook the fries without seasonings. While they cook, sauté some minced garlic in a skillet with a little olive oil. As soon as you take them out of the air fryer, sprinkle on the parmesan, drizzle on the garlic with the oil, and sprinkle on the flaky salt. Heaven.

Flavored Salts: Keep it simple with a sprinkle of salt at the end. Consider a flavored salt like smoked, garlic, truffle, sriracha, or rosemary.

The best sauces for sweet potato fries

  • Chipotle sauce - my all time favorite! This mildly spiced creamy sauce pairs perfectly with sweet potatoes.
  • Sweet and Sour Sauce - a healthier take on a fast food favorite!
  • Ketchup - I can't eat fries without it!
  • Tartar sauce - another family favorite. Not a traditional pairing with fries, but so, so delicious!
